This week...

Speech
We are wrapping up Chapter 9: How to Organize Your Speech
and will have the Chapter 9 Test on Wednesday. Next on the agenda: Effective Language.

Reading
We are moving a little quicker than I anticipated through the end of
To Kill A Mockingbird, which means out test
dates have changed. Chapters 22-25 Test will be tomorrow and
Chapters 26-31 Test will be on Monday, March 11 which will finish out
the 9 weeks. I am looking forward to our field trip to the Shakespeare Festival on
Friday, March 15th!

Character Education
Our Philanthropy Billboards are in progess! Photos to come!

Art I & II
This week Art I is starting their torn paper self portrait
and Art II is beginning their symmetry drawing of themselves.

CONGRATULATIONS to 9th grader SAWYER DUNN for winning the Alabama Youth Art MonthFlag Contest for the High School Division!
He will be receiving free art supplies
from Sargent Art! Great Job, Sawyer!!

This week...

Speech
We will be beginning Chapter 9 and learning
how to properly organize speeches.

Reading
We are in Chapters 18-21 of the trial of Tom Robinson. There are so many
major themes that are all starting to come together in these chapters
and we will be continuing to read aloud in class and discuss
as we go. Below is the tentative test schedule for the remaining
chapters of To Kill A Mockingbird (the students should also have this written
down in their notebooks)

Wednesday, February 27 - Chapters 18-21
Thursday, March 7 - Chapters 22-25
Thursday, March 14 - Chapters 26-31
Friday, March 15- Our fieldtrip to the Shakespeare Festival to
see To Kill a Mockingbird!!

(Again, this is a tentative schedule and dates may change slighty if we get ahead of schedule.)

Character Education
In extension to our lesson on charity, we are discussing 'philanthropy'
this week and the students will be creating a
billboard advertising a philanthropy or cause that will
inspire other students at PLAS!

Art I & II
We are wrapping up our "Dream" windows inspired by Marc Chagall
and also working on duct tape projects!
The 7th grade has had some great entries already! Pictures to come.

This week!

Speech
The 9th grade is in Washington D.C. this week and I hope they
are having a great time!
I told them to TRY and learn something while they were there since they will
be surrounded with such rich history.......
we will see how that goes! ;)

Reading
We are in Chapters 15-17 of To Kill a Mockingbird this week and will
have our test on
chapters 15-17 tomorrow!

Character Education
We are in the computer lab today and tomorrow making powerpoint
presentations on the chairty they created last week!
We will begin presenting these powerpoints on Thursday.

Art I & II
There were some GREAT entries for the 100 Uses for Duct Tape
assignment and this week in addition to working on our Marc Chagall piece,
the students
will be making one item from their 100 uses for duct tape list.
Also, I am giving extra credit to any student that brings in
paper towels, baby wipes,
and cleaning wipes. Each item is worth 5 points and they can earn up to
20 extra credit points for bringing these items in!

Reading:  Using their imaginations (much like the character Dill Harris would), the students wrote Dill Harris a postcard wishing for his return to Maycomb.

 

Character Education: As a part of our cooperation and teamwork lesson, the class divided into groups and created their own board games! Needless to say, they had a great time playing each others games! 




Art I & II: Our giant collage color wheels are up for all to see and enjoy! They look
great, don't they?!? :)

This Week - Happy Valentine's Day! :)

Speech
We just wrapped up our chapter on Interviewing and there will be a vocabulary
quiz on Chapter 6 Tuesday. Each student has been assigned a section
in Chapter 8 that they will be teaching to
the class beginning on Wednesday.

Reading
We just finished Part I of 'To Kill a Mockingbird and will have
a test on Chapters 12-14 on Thursday! (I forgot
how much I love this book!!)

Character Education
This week we are talking about charities and ways we can
help in our community. They will also be
creating their own charity that they will be
presenting to the class.

Art 1 & II
Tomorrow we will have a short quiz on color theory
and then diving into the work of Marc Chagall.
This weeks Draw Now assignment is
to come up with 100 uses for Duct Tape!
(This should be interesting ;)

This week!

Speech
This week students are conducting in class interviews and they
will be creating a 1-2 minute speech on the
classmate they interviewed. We will begin presenting
on Thursday!

Reading
We are just about to wrap up Part I of To Kill a Mockingbird and the plan
is to have a test on Chapter 8-11 on Thursday!

Character Education
We are continuing our lesson on friendship and will begin our friendship
puzzle- Romero Britto Style- today! Pictures to come!

Art I & II
Our color wheel collages are still in progress! They are looking great and I can't
wait to hang them up! The "Draw Now" assignment for the
week is: Design Your Dream Bedroom. I am looking forward to the
creative ideas they come up with!

This week!

Speech:
We have just started Chapter 2 on Interviewing and will be conducting interviews
on classmates for our first speech. We will
be presenting these next week!

Reading:
We just wrapped up Chapter 7 in To Kill a Mockingbird and
spent the class period reviewing for
the Chapter 4-7 test tomorrow!

Character Education:
This week we are focusing on the elements of friendship
and how we can work on being a better friend.

Art I & II:
Our giant collage color wheels are coming along! As soon
as we finish I will be posting pictures. Also, the
topic for the weekly 'Draw Now'
assignment (due each Friday)
is to draw a pile of stuff you would
buy if you won the lottery!
